Band photography is by far one of the more entertaining fields of music photography. Collaborating directly with artists gives you an opportunity to know them as people. It also gives you an opportunity to build trust, mutual respect and comradery. It’s how friendships start.

Since the late 50’s, band photographers like Jim Marshall and have been capturing amazing imagery of musicians and their live performance. These images have been instrumental in shaping the identity of iconic bands like Elvis Presley, The Stones, The Beatles, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, and so on. These images have also helped to shape and define generations.

Being a band photographer definitely has its perks. You travel all across the country and abroad taking photos of your favorite artists, the musicians you grew up with. Creating band portraits isn’t a bad gig.
